Environmental Issues

illustration of green hills and renewable energy options
Renewable energy helps to address some environmental problems.

Many environmental issues issues can be addressed by changes in the way we live our lives. Water pollution, air pollution, landfill contamination and climate change are some environmental issues that can be addressed through eco-friendly practices. Using the links below, research these environmental issues and describe how they impact your community, your region and the entire planet. Think about how these environmental issues can also impact social justice, poverty, human rights and human conflicts around the world. Use pages 2-4 of your Engineering Portfolio to keep track of your ideas.

The following links include resources for you to gather research on these environmental issues. You may begin your research using these resources, but you are not limited to these:

> Water Pollution
> Air Pollution
> Landfill Contamination
> Global Climate Change

Teacher Note

Have students turn to pages 2-4 of their Engineering Portfolios before this activity begins. It will prompt students to research four environmental issues and describe how they play out locally, regionally and globally.
